The Iowa spring-winter-spring-winter is here again and I have alpaca on the wheel. Specifically this is Suri alpaca with long silky locks. So, what are the beneifts of wearing this lovely fiber?
It is warmer than wool because in the middle of the fiber itself there are air pockets. This trait holds onto warmth while being lighter than a solid fiber. Alpaca is also strong, water repellant (so it wicks water away from he skin), and some claim it even resists odors. Alpaca doesn't pill because the scales on the fibers are so smooth. If you are allergic to wool, alpaca may be worth a try as it tends to be hypoallergenic too!
Peace,
Julie
